China eyes visa-free regime with Russia

Beijing to propose a bilateral visa-waiver program

To ensure a greater balance in tourism between the two countries, China will seek a visa-free regime with Russia, Gui Congyou, a senior Chinese Foreign Ministry official told reporters, according to Sputnik News.

“We want to make tourism another means of bolstering our ties with Russia and easing visa controls is one way of making this happen,” Gui was cited by the news agency as saying. “We are going to continue easing the bilateral visa regime for tourists all the way to abolishing visas altogether.”

Over 1 million Chinese tourists visited last year, Gui said, according to the report.
