Cinematryoshka: Peter Greenaway & video-art

Russian cinema (art in general) is like a matryoshka: following the recursive method it plays with the various meanings and implications.

Today we shall talk not about Russian cinema itself, but about something closely connected - a video-art project devoted to Russian avantgarde painting. And it's absolutely worth discovering: it is a famous English-Dutch film director Peter Greenaway who launches this ambitious project.

2013 is the Netherlands-Russia year, a year in which the Netherlands and Russia emphasize their long bilateral relations. The programme of cultural exchange includes a multimedia show by Peter Greenaway on the Golden Age of Russian and Dutch art. The result of this artistic experiment will be presented in the Moscow Museum of Screen Culture MediaArtLab in Central Exhibition Hall Manege by the end of 2013.

At the first sight Rembrandt and Vermeer have nothing to do with Malevich and Kandinsky. Peter Greenaway undertermines this thesis, applying the far-reaching possibilities of video art. How? He shows it on the example of his precedent works.
