Kirov Region

This is the homeland of Dymkovo painted toys and Vyatka bobbin lace. Kirov Region, also known as Vyatka, is famous for its narrow-gauge railways. They were built in connection with the development of the peat mining in the region and many of those railways are still in operation. The town of Kirovo-Chepetsk has a museum dedicated to the Karinskaya narrow-gauge railway that features wooden railroad snowplows, diesel locomotives from a children’s railway and even a tourist train with one of the coaches boasting a transparent floor.
