Nizhny Novgorod Region

Nizhny Novgorod is located on the picturesque stretch of land by the confluence of the Volga and Oka rivers. The historic Nizhny Novgorod fair was located on the spit - the largest trading place in Russia, where merchants from Europe and Asia arrived. There is also a 16th-century kremlin, which has never been taken by enemies! Do not deny yourself the pleasure of wandering along the kremlin walls - their length is just over 2 km.

By the way, the locals will not forgive you if you call their city ‘Novgorod’, no - they only call it ‘Nizhny’. In Soviet times, it was called ‘Gorky’ in honor of its famous native Maksim Gorky, which is why you can also come here from Moscow along the Gorky highway.

According to legend, it was in Nizhny Novgorod Region that the Russian “Atlantis” - the fabulous Kitezh-grad - was located.
