Oryol Region

Oryol Region is the most literary region in Russia! In Orel itself, there are many museums dedicated to writers: Turgenev, Andreev, Leskov, Bunin - and also separately to Oryol writers. In the Mtsensk “county” (yes, yes, that very one), you will find Turgenev’s noble nest - the Spasskoye-Lutovinovo estate.

The region is also famous for its folk art in the form of red-and-white ornamentation, the so-called ‘Orlov’ style.
